Almost 50 % of the inhabitants of Lulekani are not older than 16. A few years ago kids and youths did rarely have a possibility of meaningful leisure time activities.
In spite of that, children and young people were passing their time in the streets and thus were confronted by negative influences.
For this reason Leka Gape wants to offer alternative ways of leisure time activities. At the youth center, the so-called "Phola Center", they can spend their time in the afternoon. Permanent equipments are a pool table, table football and many games. Young volunteers ensure a smooth run at the spot and furthermore offer various kinds of leisure activities and workshops.
The offer includes several sports like volleyball, basketball and football as well as theatre and painting groups or music lessons. In addition, there is space for discussion groups that are especially focused on the dangers of HIV.
Special thanks go to the workers of our partner organization Love Life who conducts the workshops and advise the youth.
It is a long-term aim of the project to keep the children off the streets and to help them to develop in a positive way due to the permanent contact.
