Au Pair Project

Au pair

The high unemployment in Lulekani is one of the main reasons that constict the life of the residents and the development of the community. In particular the youth that has just passed their exams are effected by the high unemployment.

Just a few get the chance to have further education and work. For this reason Leka Gape prepares suitable young women and men between 18 and 24 years to stay for one year in a German family as an Au-Pair.

During this year the participants collect further life and work experience and learn a new foreign language. This will increase the chance for them to find a job in particular in the rising tourism industry when they return.

In cooperation with the Au-Pair Familiy Service e.V. in Germany we train and prepare our course participants. Our partner organization will look for a suitable host family and look after them while they stay in Germany.

Before they go to Germany we offer them German lessons to prepare for the German A1 Test at the Goethe Institut e.V. in Johannesburg. The passing of this test is one of the necessary requirements for the visa.

Besides this it is important to explain them the cultural differences between Germany and South Africa in a cultural training. Contents of this training are among others differences in the mentality, politics, history and geography.

Further it is important to train them for their work as an Au-Pair. Therefore, we show them e.g. how to change nappies, to bath children and brush their teeth, but also how to use a washing machine.
