I am currently studying social work at the college in Munich and a compulsory part of my studies is a practical internship in the field of social work.
As I wanted to do this internship in a foreign country, I went to various information lectures in the One-World House. At one of those lectures two other students reported about their internship at Leka Gape.
Afterwards I looked for further information on the Leka Gape website and applied for an internship at this organization. During my six months stay here I am mainly working in the Shelter and look after the women.
Since adult education is one of my major courses I wanted to gain some experience in this field. After my arrival I was also asked from the organization if I want to teach and work with the women of the Shelter.
At this time I have visited a lot in the region and got to know many things about the South African culture. Many German interns and volunteers work for Leka Gape which is very useful, because we can talk about problems, share the experiences and help each other.
I did not apply much of the theoretical knowledge from my studies during my internship, but I have learned a lot for me personally.
