I am 22 years old and study politics in Bamberg, Germany. During my studies I always wanted to go to a foreign country for one semester and since my interest for development aid and the African continent because of its history and politics has been intensified, I decided to do an internship in a development aid organization on the African continent.
I found Leka Gape by chance. A friend of my supervisor at the university provided me some information about this organization. Afterwards I collected a few more information and applied for an internship at Leka Gape.
Compared to the other volunteers I have to work a lot with the computer during my internship. I helped to create the new Leka Gape website, wrote job descriptions, translated documents for Petra and did also some fund raising in the beginning.
Besides this I am responsible for the cultural and childcare training of the Au-Pair project participants and I am part of the child headed families project.
As you can see I worked in many different areas and I really like that, because this gave me the opportunity to get an overview of different working fields. I stayed here for five months and got some insights in the development aid, which allows me to think critically about development aid projects in general and about its sustainability.
In general I think, that my internship influenced me in many ways, it gave me the opportunity to get to know a completely different culture and also to be part of it.
